Kim Doherty produces unique, hand-made textiles, to wear, for soft furnishings, and art pieces for your interior spaces.
What is really important to Kim is to be able share her absolute passion for her work and practice with you, in your life. Kim has a deep personal connection with every one of her pieces, which is what she strives to share and explore with you.
It’s the tactile nature of textiles that has so much appeal for Kim. Creating things which cry out to be touched is very satisfying. From the fine silks & wools employed to produce her signature, award-winning handwoven scarves, to the array of other materials such as wire & fishing line which are knitted or woven to create art pieces and jewellery.
Since graduating from RMIT in 1994 having completed studies in Studio Textiles, Kim has participated in exhibitions, taken numerous commissions & shown her work in a variety of ways. She has continued to develop her passion for all things textile, and experiments with the innumerable materials that can be employed using textile techniques.
Her practice produces a very broad range of work, including cushions, either made from her hand screen-printed fabrics, or embroidered with her designs; handwoven scarves and shawls; bags; jewellery; Art pieces and a range of clothing and accessories embroidered with distinctive Celtic designs.
Kim takes great pride in producing every piece in her range, so there truly is something of her in every item. Along with practicality, Kim’s philosophy encompasses beauty & form, and accessibility for all. It’s a constant evolution as new ideas develop into finished pieces. The possibilities are endless…..
In the short video below, Kim reveals something of her practice and philosophies about her work.
